Gary's Diner was created as a vehicle to encapsulate my two passions, music & food. My goal is to help educate , provide painfully honest reviews, provide recommendations to save you the hassle & and help to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone, leave their hometown bias behind & come out to experience the restaurants, cities, families & cultures that have defined American cuisine & may very well be the reason you love your sloppy floppy pizza that cost 10 cents to make. Most shitty pizza makers make more money then most fine dining restaurants because of their obscene profit margin i.e. cheap sauce, cheap dough, & absolutely no consideration for chemistry when constructing their dough. They also use cheap generic dough that contains many chemicals that are known to cause cancer (contact me for specific references). This is just one example of the food ignorance I'm looking to expose.
Common sense dictates that all of the best food will be in & around cities because of immigration, history, desire for revenue & need/want to share that particular chefs art on a global platform. I grew up in a small rural, ignorant, non-progressive town, and it was hard to accept at first that the food I ate growing up (that I thought was great) was actually trash. My quest in life has always been to find the best & over the years I've gradually been able to expand my palette. I am blessed to live close to places like New York, Philadelphia, Boston, D.C, Baltimore, New Haven, Portland, coastal towns, classic Italian towns in New Jersey & numerous other neighborhoods serving iconic cultural cuisine, making my quest for culinary greatness a convenient one. Where does music fit in? I am able to incorporate theme appropriated music into my Instagram & TikTok posts representing the food or the culture & history behind it. If I post something in the East Village you might hear a Ramones, Talking Heads or Televison. If it's Brooklyn it might be Grizzly Bear, the National or Big Thief, if it's an old school diner it might be Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison or the Bill Haley & the Comets & if it's Philly it might be anything from Hall & Oats to the War on Drugs. Anything from Jazz to Hip Hop & everything in between. I mean, what good is a diner without a jukebox?
Food. Music. High Art. Experience.
